San Juan Mountains, Colorado

Near the end of July, we went for another family camping trip to Telluride, where we camped outside of town in the San Juan Mountains. Our view was incredible! We spent two nights there. Telluride is about 7 hours away from Boulder, in the southwest corner of Colorado.

Campfire on our first evening.

Homemade black bean soup for dinner. Yum!

Good Morning Camper!

Campsite sunset.

Morning splash fun in the mountain stream.

Telluride, CO

Telluride is easily one of the most beautiful spots in the US. Chris and I have talked about going for years, and we finally made it happen this summer. Chris had been here a few times, but it had been several years. We were all blown away by Telluride's beauty and had a blast spending a long weekend camping there.

View as you drive into town.

Walking around downtown Telluride.

Bridal Veil Falls flows into the box canyon at the edge of town.

William got a stylish Telluride shirt in town!

Boulder Reservoir

In north Boulder, just a few minutes from our house, is the Boulder Reservoir. It's a popular place to come during the summer, and has a nice beach and lots of lake swimming. People keep boats out on the lake all summer as well.

Walking along the pier on a sunny Colorado day.

A beach with a mountain view...not bad!

William and I built a big sand castle, the best one yet! Here is William filling up the lake in front of our castle.

Construction continues...

Beach fun!

Mini Golf

Across the street from our neighborhood in Boulder, there is a fun park with 2 mini golf courses, go cart tracks, and other fun activities. We took William for a round of mini golf one Friday night this August.

Nice form!

William did a great job sinking his putts. He has really gotten into golf this summer!

Pikes Peak

This past weekend, we took a day trip to Colorado Springs, which is about 2 hours south of Boulder. While we were there, we took a train to the summit of Pikes Peak! The summit is over 14,000 feet tall, one of about 50 CO mountains that are that high in elevation. It was so much fun! The train ride is about an hour an 15 minutes each way. Chris did this same train ride when he was a kid!

Woo-hoo, reaching new heights @ 14,110 Feet! Highest elevation for William yet!

All aboard!

Along the way, there was a decorated Easter tree and Christmas tree, among other interesting sightings.

William brought his conductor hat he got on the train ride in Kauai earlier this year. He was lovin his window seat view.

All smiles aboard the train!

Watching another train on its way down.

At the summit. The poem (song) "America the Beautiful" was written at this very location in 1893 by Katharine Lee Bates.

We also took a tour through Garden of the Gods, a gorgeous park of natural red rocks. Below are the Kissing Camels.

Colorado Springs was a fun day trip for us! Yet another gorgeous weekend touring around this beautiful state!
